Shannon Farnon, who voiced Wonder Woman on The Super Friends read the comic books while growing up calling her the ultimate Amazon woman. At one stage the network requested Shannon soften Wonder Woman's voice. I started out using a very butch delivery for her, but softened her up over the years at the request of the network. After creating and performing the voice of Wonder Woman for about ten years at Hanna Barbera my agent got a call asking if I would 'audition' for the role because there was a new director, Gordon Hunt. After my disbelief passed I swallowed my professional pride and agreed to go in and audition. At the audition, in which Hunt was not present, Shannon was asked to do the voice the way she thought it should be done. End result? I did not get the role. It went to the director's significant other... Shannon occasionally gets to work with her previous colleagues doing promotional commercials for the Cartoon Network. They are a blast, very tongue in cheek - and we all kid each other about the aging super heroes! It was a special group of people, very talented, some very funny, some of whom are no longer with us. Batman voice actor, Olan Soule, passed away several years ago. Danny Dark (voice of Superman) died within the last year. Casey Kasem 'Robin' and I are the last of the four core characters. The cast would arrive together, rehearse and then record the episode. They were given other characters to play also. Die-hard fans claim to recognise my voice on the other characters like French scientists and German doctors. Interview copyright Kyall Coulton 2008 |
