Interview with Debbie Evans Leavitt

Jeannie Epper recommended me for the job on Wonder Woman. She put in a good word for me with stunt coordinator Ron Stein. Until that time they were using Buddy Joe Hooker to double Lynda on the motorcycle stunts. I did one episode, they liked my work so from then on I was Lynda's double on the motorcycle.

The Wonder Woman motorcycle outfit was a skin-tight spandex suit. It offered no insulation and there was nowhere to put pads. I joked about the only pads I could use were on my chest. The helmet was so big on me I could almost turn it around on my head without taking it off. The boots offered no protection or ankle support either. Due to her skill on a motorcycle Debbie didn't sustain a single injury while performing stunts on the show.

In one episode Debbie was used to double Lynda jumping off the back of a truck. They would reverse the film to make it look like she was jumping into the truck. I am 5'4" and Lynda is about 5'10" so there is a big difference in height, but as long as there was nothing to compare our height to the difference could not be noticed. The cameraman would only take close ups of Lynda on the bike so viewers would not be able to see how much taller she sat on the bike than I did.

One of the first jobs I had to do was out at Indian Dunes. It was during winter and was raining off and on. I remember being so cold that I couldn't stop my teeth from chattering and my lips turning blue. I was glad when the filming was over and I was relaxing in a tub full of hot water.

Lynda wasn't always there when I was working, but I did have some interaction with her. She was always cordial to me. I did hear, however, that should could be difficult at times.

Debbie continues to do stunt work in films today such as The Fast and the Furious and The Matrix.
